Portable Appliance Testing

Portable Appliances are those electrical appliances which can be easily moved.

Computers, although portable, are rarely moved and because their life span is generally reckoned to be three years, they are usually only tested once in their lifecycle.

PAT testing must be carried out by someone competent to do so. The person must hold a qualification and they must keep records.

However, visual inspections should take place regularly. Checks on cables, excessive fan noise and currency of labels can be made by the technician.
